Tim Ferriss’ Daily Routine
Recently Tim Ferriss broke down his daily routine at the end of a Q & A episode on his podcast. I found it fascinating to get a detailed glimpse into someone’s life; specially someone like Tim who aims for efficiency and balance in his every day life. I went ahead and transcribed it because I want to share it with you.
Here’s Tim Ferriss’ daily routine:
Wake up
Meditate for 20 minutes in a separate room
10-15 laps in the pool to wake up and get sun exposure
Go into barrel sauna (for ~ 25 minutes) with a clipboard with 10-15 pages of writing to edit/review (usually printed out the night before) along with a towel to not get sweat on the pages.
Take a quick cold shower
Have first bite to eat
Make pu’er tea with a dash of green tea
Sit down to do some type of writing or get status update from researcher who is helping with current book
Stand and work at treadmill desk for 3-4 hours
Bike for about a mile and a half
Have lunch with the exact same wrap every day along with cold ice tea and San Pellegrino sparkling water
Continue to work at the lunch spot outside for 2-3 hours (or until the bugs are too annoying)
Bike back
Continue to work for a few more hours
Dinner out / work dinner
Come back
Maybe sauna, dip in the pool, or cold bath
Go to bed
Having the same wrap every day seemed interesting to me. Tim didn’t dive into why he does this, but having consumed his previous work, I’d say this was to make less decisions in the day and allow more headspace for higher priority items. Or… maybe he just really likes the wrap.
Tim also mentioned in his podcast that his aim is to make every day like Groundhog Day as much as possible. Personally I prefer a little more variety in my daily schedule. I’m not sure if I could repeat the same meal every day and be happy about it. I love food. A lot.
Of course, the intention isn’t to copy Tim or anyone else’s routine. This information merely provides insight into how someone else lives day to day. I find it fascinating. Some might say Tim’s day to day is unrealistic for most people, but being realistic isn’t really a factor for me when I am learning about someone else’s lifestyle.
